SNP all but drop any reference to global warming.

I’ve just been listening to the Alex Salmonds “five year vision” on the BBC.
In a 22minute speech, I noticed two possible reference. There was one mention of “crown estates” and “wealth” which could if desperate be taken to mean “offshore wind”, but likely means oil.
And then 14minutes in we had the only clear reference:
“Scottish futures trush designed to tackle head on problems of Scottish society …So the (Scottish) futures fund (has within it)
Youth talent fund (blurb) … A warm homes fund, that will deliverer warm homes and provide these communities with own renewable energy… tackling not only the symptoms but the causes of poverty.

  1. There are no oilfields in Crown Estate waters AFAIK
“So we will ensure that the Crown Estate comes under the control of this Parliament, so Scotland’s communities can share the vast offshore wealth of our nation.”
= marine renewables (not just offshore wind)
    and a bit you missed:
“We know of our great comparative advantage in natural resources and the opportunities that exist in transforming to a Low Carbon Economy.
In renewable energy we have just one of many growth sectors. And through our renewable wealth we can and we will re-industrialise our nation as we research, develop, export, engineer, fabricate, install and then service the new energy systems that will power this century.”
Like most of us the SNP have ceased debating global warming. Policy decisions have been made on the basis of the available evidence and are going forward without fuss or bluster. Time to go with the flow, events are in train that the sceptics can no longer derail.

  2. PaulH from Barcelona says:

‘Time to go with the flow’.
Isn’t that what some folk think when stating ‘I was only following orders’?
Policy decisions can be modified, as this one will be.

  3. Thanks. I have to admit that with kids playing PS2 in the background I was a little distracted! But it was so easy to miss – much easier to search the text!
