When I wondered how much global warming had featured in the Scottish elections, the headlines really spoke for themselves:

The Scottish election features in not one of the news articles concerning any election coverage that included global warming in the last week. NOT ONE!
As I’ve mentioned before “Climate change” isn’t a very specific term bringing in all kinds of things like economic climate change. Moreover, as Chris Hume is the “climategate” sorry “climate change” Ministe
r, the term gets mentioned whenever he appears on any issue, which fortunately isn’t much! So, as even climate change isn’t much talked about these days, it was fairly quick to spot the only article:
Alex Salmond christens election helicopter ‘Saltire One’
The chasm between the Holyrood election campaigns of Scotland’s two main parties has been dramatically illustrated when Alex Salmond travelled to a key marginal constituency by
helicopter and Iain Gray drove himself there in a people carrier. (Telegraph)
And what was it reporting Alex Salmond saying? Well nothing to be honest, for the text containing climate change was:
“But we must remember that this is the man who wanted to fly to the Maldives to lecture on climate change and now swoops over our country looking down on Scots.”
There was also a mention in the “Daily roundup: Scottish Greens, 19 April” in The Caledonian Mercury 6 days ago summing up the Green Campaign:
We’ll protect Scotland’s public services and build the low-carbon economy the other … by cutting energy bills, creating jobs and tackling climate change. .. (Caledonian Mercury)
So, there we have it, the only mention in the whole election I can find for the last week is a single mention by the Greens tacking it on to the end of a long list: “… and tackle climate change”.
From “World’s greatest problem” to “the end of a long wish list which we aren’t at all serious about but have to mention” in two years.
Of course, some people will say that the overwhelming consensus amongst the political elite that us plebs should fork out hundreds of pounds each year to pay for the bird mincers that are destroying the landscape of Scotland means it’s all been decided so there clearly is no issue to debate.
I think not!
PS. If anyone does find anything other than a manifesto that mentions global warming could you post it below!
