Proposed Scottish Motorway System

Below is an outline suggestion for a series of new Scottish roads on which I would welcome comments. But first, by “Motorway” I mean a major road suitable within a Scottish context of long-distance driving at relatively low densities and not the school-run of the M25.
So, e.g. the road from Inverness to Wick, being very low density, whilst having good quality junctions to avoid accidents on such a long route, may be an Irish style single main lane with a “hardshoulder” onto which people would be compelled to move to allow over-taking. The key is not big roads, but good quality straight & so fast roads with easy over-taking and a limited number of well designed junctions.
Routes are shown dotted if I’ve just connected two end points.

M702 (A702 upgrade)

Links M74 to Edinburgh & via M90 to Perth and Dundee

M92 (Glasgow – Wallace New City – Aberdeen)
(Also connections to Stirling, Perth, Inverness, Fort William?)

Why "Global warming" deserves listed status as a historic monument

For anyone that ever tried to edit Wikipedia, just like anyone who had to live in a 1960s concrete tower block, the idea that something so appalling might need protecting will likely seem crazy.
But the problem with destroying the past – even if it’s a totally abhorent symbol of the past whether slum housing or ideologically driven propaganda – is that if future generations can’t see these failings of the past, then they are bound to repeat them.
Take for example the notorious list from the Wikipedia talk page of “common complaints by sceptics”. It neatly encapsulates every sceptic argument – it’s like a “who’s who” of issues that should be in the article but were barred and replaced by overt propaganda.
And that it stood there for so long signalling to each and every sceptic that the article was clearly and obviously biased – is a testament to how deluded some people can become when they “get power”.
That’s a lesson we all need to learn.

Wikipedia is not a reliable source

Campaign to save Wikipedia "Global Warming" page.

You know how once upon a time you threw out old toys when you grew up or discarded old fashioned technology. Then a few years later you see the same thing in a museum or up for auction and realise that you are actually quite nostalgic about what you once considered rubbish.
Well … I went to look at the talk page of “Global warming” on wikipedia and was quite horrified to find this:

Rename article?
NewsAndEventsGuy, suggested it last year. Today the term global warming is almost never used, either in the literature or in the media. Therefore WP should reflect that.

Of course, the reason I go back there is to see the academics who fabricated that article squirming every way possible to avoid the pause.  It’s fun to see what their latest excuse is for their denial of reality.
But when I saw they might get rid of the page altogether – I kind of realised I’d grown fond of that page and all the quirky non-science on it.
And it is so easy to just point someone at the page and say “look for the pause” – it doesn’t take a lot of effort to show people how biased Wikipedia is on the subject.
Fortunately, the con artist in chief who spent so much time fabricating the article doesn’t like the idea:

Disagree. Climate change covers the present period, too. Fiddling with the name is just pointless William M. Connalley (talk) 17:06, 22 May 2015 (UTC)

So, on reflection, if it puts connolley’s nose out of joint I wouldn’t be so sad to see it go. But we certainly need to keep a copy.
Does anyone know how to get a copy of all the talk comments?

The music of Climate

The temperature signal is a form of 1/f noise – yes buried in that noise may be something manmade – but the bulk is just randomness.
I’ve often wondered what it would sound like speeded up – I don’t know how to convert the temperature data to an audio file, so second best: here is 10 hours of pseudo-climate signal. (Enjoy – around 5 hours in something startling happens – just joking!!)

The Royal Anti-Science Society of Edinburgh?

I’m reblogging this in full because it’s so good and it needs to be on a Scottish blog to drive home the point that these academics are letting Scotland down by their non-science.

By Christopher Monckton of Brenchley
The campaign by certain rent-seeking scientific societies to push a single, narrow view of the climate question continued in Scotland today with a meeting coyly entitled Climate Change: Science and Society at the Royal Society of Edinburgh, Scotland’s once-famous, once-scientific society.

Your correspondent, following a tip-off from “rms”, a WUWT commenter, tootled round from Queen Street and sat through this gag-reflex-tweaking propaganda event.
This was the first meeting at any scientific society at which not only did I hear a member of the audience demand less science but the rest of the audience actually applauded. Continue reading

How to run a house off the car battery

With yet more news from Bishop Hill of another coal powered station closing down, the likelihood of power cuts grows.
So, I’ve started thinking about how to deal with power cuts in a more robust way than a few candles and torches.

WARNING!
THE IDEAS IN THIS ARTICLE ARE ONLY FOR DISCUSSION.
DO NOT TRY ANY OF THIS YOURSELF AND IF YOU DO DON’T BLAME ME IF IT GOES WRONG
IF YOU DON’T UNDERSTAND WHAT YOU ARE DOING TRYING THIS IS INSANE!! Continue reading

Der SS Guardian des Furhrer is nicht geplunk.

There’s still nothing worth reporting on Global Warming – but that doesn’t stop Der SS Guardian manufacturing yet another proclamation from des Climate Fuhrer stuck in their bunker at Der Guardian.
For some time the Guardian have been alone in the world with their climate fanaticism. Yes a few other papers occasionally go through the motions of firing off another odd article when it’s pushed at them by some crazy fanatic academic. But only the Guardian manufacturers this kind of propaganda.
But as a sceptic – one has to admire those who have the courage to stand up and be counted when all others are just following the social convention – even if I don’t personally agree with them – even if I think they are mad.

There's no point flogging a dead horse to prove it's dead

In WWII the Nazi’s bombed London with flying bombs. People were safe so long as they heard the bomb’s engine, but they would dive for cover when it stopped.
Likewise serious reporting on Global Warming stopped ages ago. I can’t remember when there was last anything new to report, I can’t remember the last time I saw a newsmedia article (outwith WUWT) that was worth reading …

…. but how frigging long does it take for this scam to hit the ground?

Logically, at some point Jo public is going to get angry when the realise that no one really takes global warming seriously any longer – but we are still forking out £1000s to the scum behind the wind scam.
The next climate agreement is dead – so it’s a waste of time blogging on that. The climate will cool sometime – but who knows when. The alarmist academics aren’t putting out the same daft non-science – but neither are the telling the truth – so nothing to report there. Likewise the politicians know that global warming is a poisoned chalice – they are damned if they kill and damned if they don’t.
In short, the end is nigh for Global warming but I’m sick to death waiting for it to explode and who the heck knows when that will be?

There’s no point flogging a dead horse to prove it’s dead.

But please do wake me up if something happens.

CIA decide that global warming isn't a threat.

Apparently the CIA have shut down their main “secretive climate research program”. (link) In fact, it doesn’t sound much at all except sharing a bit of data will civilian academics.
But whether or not it was anything in the first place, the fact is that they’ve shut it down. The media article, clearly being pushed by those who have lost their grants, is long on interpretation and short on facts.
Except the one essential fact that even though Obama is saying: “Climate change is an immediate risk to our national security” the CIA have just shut down their main program on climate change – which kind of says that the security experts don’t agree.
