Thanks

Dear sceptic (skeptics),
you might know me as “Scottish Sceptic”, in real life I’m Mike Haseler, a father of three, who like so many others felt obliged to fight the non-science in what some called the “climate wars”. I believe I speak for most of us, when I say our aims were modest: to stop the stupidity, arrogance and politicisation that infested academia and those like NOAA from seriously impacting our society, economy and yes … the environment. Because, I sincerely believe that at the heart of most sceptics is not only a passion for honesty and real compulsion to do what we believe is right for society, but also a deep concern for the earth.
And in a real sense we have “won” the climate war, because Green groups are now all but admitting what I call the “Dead Parrot Talks” (as I call them) in Paris will be a “failure”. They are now discussion “how to make people care” about the (lack of) warming. And the reality is that whatever their rhetoric, governments like the UK are starting to dismantle the global warming bandwagon.
But in another sense, the war can never be “won”, because the fight against arrogant stupidity and greed will always be with us. Because so long as there are gullible people, there will always be the profiteering sharks, ready to fabricated crisis to line their pockets. So, there will always be a need for us sceptics!
But like “the Dead Parrot” sketch of Monty python, this parrot (global warming) is dead as more and more the public realise that it was only ever on its perch “because it had been nailed there” as the sketch goes.
So, I think it is time we all gave ourselves a pat on the back,. But unfortunately, we sceptics initially few in number, but now overwhelming in numbers, do not have some leader to stand on some battleship and proclaim “the war is over”. Nor can we cannot award medals of gallantry to those who stood out for their devotion to duty however much they are deserved.
However, I can say without modesty or fear of contradiction (by the facts), never have so many owed so much to so few. Those bloggers who stood up against tyranny in the dark hours of repression, those who supported them in the comments, even just those who read the posts in quiet support, have all been responsible for one of the greatest victories of humanity: not against actual weapons of mass destruction, but instead against false ideas and ignorance. I sincerely believe that if there had not been those few first sceptics willing to take the lead and this global warming hysteria had taken a deeper hold, the impact to our society would have caused a Stalinist type holocaust greater than any war the world has ever seen.
That threat has gone (for now), so as the turmoil of the “climate wars” ebbs away and governments, academics and governmental agencies, begin to wake up to the changing world, I would just like to say “thanks” to each and everyone sceptic.

thanks!

Thank you all the bloggers both big and small, all of whom played a vital role disseminating the truth. Thank you to everyone who has contributed articles and comments both on my blog, here and everywhere else. It has been a pleasure getting know people throughout the world. Thank you wives & husbands, families & friends that have put up with us “enthusiasts”. Thank you the few politicians who listened to us and thank you to those journalists who did their job and ensured the public heard the “other side” of the debate.
But those like me contributing on the internet at least could escape the vitriol and hatred thrown at us by the ignorant and greedy on line. In contrast, in areas like academia, sceptics not only risked their own careers, but in some notable cases lost them. So a particular thanks to them for their personal sacrifice in standing up for real science against the evil of ignorance and political spite.
But last of all one special lady deserves a mention. Without her, none of us would be here. She is without doubt our greatest sceptic who has consistently put up two fingers to all alarmists. She was the original sceptic who was just as sceptical of the global cooling crisis as the 20th century warming. So, let us all, in our own way say:

Thank you mother earth

Met Office: nothing short of criminal investigations will satisfy me

Back in 2008 when I wrote the following post, the BBC might have got away with what Andrew Montford on Bishop Hill describes as:

For such a trifling programme, Quentin Letts’ What’s the Point of the Met Office is really making waves. Booker reviews it over at the Mail and there’s some interesting coverage by Damian Thompson at the Spectator.

So, let’s just see what was already apparent some 8 years ago:

Global Temperatures & CO2 The Failure of the Theory of Manmade Global Warming

Global Temperatures & CO2
The Failure of the Theory of Manmade Global Warming

February’s Update news: According to revised official Met office1 figures, January 2008 was still the coldest month globally in 14 years2. At only 0.056°C higher than the nominal reference3 We must look back to February 1994 to find a colder month. Global temperatures peaked in February 1998 at 0.75°C and with February coming in at 0.194°C there is a definite and accelerating cooling trend of -0.1°C/decade.
By the Met Office’s own statistic’s it is highly unlikely that the forecasts could be consistently too high by chance and therefore this is clear proof of a consistent error in the forecasting model. That is to say, the cooling temperature clearly contradicts the theory of manmade global warming, because although CO2 levels continue to rise, global temperatures have cooled. Continue reading

The theory of non-causality

In logic, there is a requirement the world is structured such that A->B which can be read “if A then B”, but is often assumed to mean: “A causes B”.
As a physicist, I was indeed taught that the whole world could be dissected into smaller and smaller constituent parts and that these could all be put together again and their behaviour explained by a set of causal relationships (aka science) to build the world we have. As such the implied philosophical basis of science is that …

“everything has a cause”.

I would now like to suggest that there exists systems where it is not only impractical to describe them as having a cause, but that there is literally no “cause”.

Fortunately for me, after doing physics at University, I went into engineering and fairly quickly the arrogance instilled in me from my school and university courses began to disappear. I realised that in real life, the assumption the world could be dissected into constituent parts and that by knowing “science” you could predict how these would work was false.

Like most people who follow a similar path, I quickly learnt the idea that :

“it might work in theory – but does it work in practice”.

Looking back now, I now have a much higher regard for this engineering philosphy as I now see that this is undoubtedly the origin of what later came to be known as “the scientific method”. AKA (it might look OK in theory – but does it work in practice?)

The “Scientific Method is Anti-Science”

Met Office economic with truth: Scotland coldest July since 1998

OK, I admit I’m just extremely pissed off with the weather! (And by the time I finished writing this I was even more pissed off with the Met Office for their dishonest portrayal of this weather)
OK, there’s no evidence that the ice age is coming (my original title), but I rightly feel rightly miffed with the Met Office and all the other climate extremists. It’s another cold wet day, after a cold wet July following the coldest June in 40 years. And to put it in context, this coldest July since 1998* included a spectacular hot 2-3 days (see: How to survive a Scottish heat wave).
So, if this coldest July since 1998 includes a heat wave – which we couldn’t appreciate because it came as shock after the previous cold weather and so none of us had time to acclimatise and get to enjoy it – you can imagine how grim the rest of the month was like!
Scotland was the coldest July since 1998* – and probably if you exclude those 2-3 days with heat – it may well be the coldest on record.
And this is how the Met Office show it (courtesy of  “NotALotOfPeopleKnowThat“).
2015_7_MeanTemp_Anomaly_1981-2010
AND HERE IT MIGHT HAVE ENDED HOWEVER ….
As I peered to see why there wasn’t a HUGE dark blue pot where we live, something occurred to me.  It’s really easy to give a false perception of the climate by adjusting the scale. THIS SCALE GOES UP IN 1C STEPS. So I checked on line to see what scale the Met Office used when it is warm and I found this:
AndMetOfficeClaimsTHIS SCALE FROM THE SAME MONTH LAST YEAR GOES UP IN 0.5C steps (not 1C as this year), but worse, the first colouring of “warm” is at +0.2C allowing them to plaster the whole map with red.
The majority of the warm of the map last year was “up to +1.5C”. This is exactly the same limit for the cold this july, but don’t the maps look completley different! This shows a clear conscious decision to down play the recent cold and/or to enhance the recent warming using to dishonest tricks:

  1. Picking an abnormally low level for “warming” so as to ensure the map is entirely coved in red hue when it is warm whilst picking a much higher threshold for “cooling” so that a large part of the map has no hue
  2. Increasing the scale so that anomalies that appear this July in a faded blue, appear as a dense red last year.

I don’t have the actual data to allow a map similar to the above, but using something similar to last July’s scale and guessing where the -0.2C limit would be, I think it would not look too different from this:

2015_7_MeanTemp_Anomaly_1981-2010

Scale as used by Met Office this year.

UpdateJuly 2015

The same colour scale as July 2013**

* Allegedly but the Met Office clearly have a culture of exaggerating warmth when it comes and severely down-playing cold, so for very good reason I don’t trust the Met Office on any statistics.
**As close as I can get it given I don’t have all the data.

Obama's climate "legacy"

I’m finding these days that there are less and less stories online in the newsmedia on global warming – so I thought I’d go and look how Obama is doing with his “legacy”.
I first looked at the 90 day trend – but all you can see is less of a weekend dip in the last few days which would take too long to explain. So here is the last seven days:

The google trend for last & days of "Global warming". If you look closely, you can see that there's a small increase peaking on 4th with a 15% increase for around a day.

The google trend for last & days of “Global warming”. If you look closely, you can see that there’s a small increase peaking on 4th with a 15% increase for around a day.

As you can see, there was a marginal increase toward the end peaking on the 4th and then declining (it looks like to the same level as before).
This scam is now so dead, that I doubt if they put a 1000,0000,000 volts through it that it would show much life. What’s that phase: oh yes! “flogging a dead horse”!
Which reminds me, it’s at least a couple of posts since I last showed this! The longer this scam goes on the more and more it resembles this Monty Python Sketch:

Wrong: "A $2.5 Trillion Price Tag And 125,800 Jobs Lost"

I saw this headline

A $2.5 Trillion Price Tag And 125,800 Jobs Lost

At Daily Caller
But that figure must be massively out. Because if you divide the cost by the jobs, that some $20million a job. Even if not a penny were invested that $20million could pay one $100,000 for 200 years … or 5 people the same for 40 years.
The real number of jobs lost by sucking that much out the economy will be much higher and likely in the millions or even 10s of millions.

Spinning wheels

I’ve been reading the news, and like the Pope’s endafticle, there’s a lot of really emphatic articles, but I just don’t feel they are getting any traction with the rest of the media, the public or politicians.
I was trying to think what it reminded me of, and I’ve now worked it out: it’s like getting caught in the snow – and some idiot putting their foot down and the wheel spinning and spinning. Far from going faster forward, the car just gets more and more bogged down.
The general advice in such a situation is always to “ease off the accelerator” (gas) so as to regain traction.
What that means in terms of this scam, is that when the publicity and political rhetoric is so far out of kilter with the everyday experience of people, all that happens by upping the rhetoric is to cause people to be even more sceptical.

Good bye global warming

Global warming, is and has always been, a propaganda campaign with a thin veneer of “science”. As the evidence against the scam built up year upon year as mother earth steadfastly refused to warm as instructed, it was inevitable the scam would fall apart. This year, when I heard Greenland was refreezing I finally realised that there was not a shred of evidence to support the scam and so it will inevitably die.
But, the big question was this: will it fade away, go out with a big bang, or will this scam have to be dragged kicking and screaming to the execution chamber.
With the UK slowly dismantling support for gullibles (aka renewables), I was starting to see that politicians would just slowly change the goal posts and like Bird Flu, the Millennium bug, BSE, Ozone, Acid rain – the scam might have just quietly been forgotten as government ease themselves out of the mess they got themselves into.
But then along came Obama + Clinton
I really do not know how these two managed to get themselves tarred with the global warming brush so late in this scam. I’m not going to speculate how it was done, but the simple fact is that the Republicans now have two democrat fools with huge targets painted on their backs and a heap big pile of ammunition and some of the best crack shots I’ve seen.
With figures of $2,000,000,000,000 being banded about as the cost, I’ve got to wonder where Clinton and Obama might not understand the different between a billion ($1,000,000,000) and a trillion ($1,000,000,000,000) after all it is very easy to mistake one for the other! The difference is that rather than a few dollars for each American, the cost is a few 10s of thousands per household.
And from the way Clinton was so easily caught getting on her private jet shortly after delivering a speech saying everyone (else) must cut down on fossil fuel use, I don’t believe she actually cares much for the policy herself. So why? At the very best, Clinton has a hugely costly policy she does not personally endorse.
But the reality is that having personally committed to this policy, Clinton’s massive spending commitment and illegal use of presidential power will have outraged all those Americans who might not have cared much about the climate and might have just turned a deaf ear to sceptics thinking to themselves “we should help the environment”. Now, these people can see the real cost, they can see that the Democrats are hell bent on this political power grab . Clinton and Obama will just galvanised the Republicans and many of their own (previous) supporters to fight against them. Complete disaster politically!
Now “fading out” is not an option. The Republicans with such an open goal left by the Democrats will be setting their phasors to kill and start gunning for it.
So, it is now almost certain we will see this scam blow up in the run up to US presidential election with a massacre of the Democrats and any other climate extremists caught into the crossfire will just be collateral damage!
Let’s put it this way, I will be very surprised if the Republican don’t already have the ammunition to ensure there aren’t criminal prosecutions started against climate extremists before the US presidential election.

??Climate scientist jailed for 14 years over global temperature rate-rigging??

This is a spoof article whereby I’ve used the BBC Libor rigging article from today and changed it to see what it would sound like when the same laws are applied to those rigging the global temperature rate as those rigging Libor.
The name is a fictitious one (I searched and nothing similar came up, but if by some chance there is someone with this name then apologies it was not intended to be you.)
Note: “scientist” is clearly a false term, especially applied to those rigging global temperature, but it is the one the  media will use.

Climate scientist jailed for 14 years over global temperature rate-rigging

Former climate scientist Michael Deva-Jones has been found guilty at a London court of rigging global temperature rates.

He was sentenced to 14 years in prison for conspiracy to defraud.
The 35-year old is the first individual to face a jury trial for manipulating the rate, which was used to justify trillions of pounds of global warming spending and climate research.
Many of the world’s leading Climate institutes have already paid heavy financial penalties for tampering with the key benchmark.
The jury found Deva-Jones guilty on all eight charges of conspiracy to defraud.

From Anon, at Southwark Crown Court

Deva-Jones stood impassively as the foreman on the jury read out all eight guilty verdicts.
His wife noted down the verdicts as they were read out.
At one point, he shook his head and looked across at his wife, mother and stepfather in the public gallery.
Deva-Jones held his head in his hands while his lawyer read out a list of mitigating factors.
Deva-Jones was sentenced to 14 years, half to be spent in custody before any possibility of release on licence.
Justice Cooke said Deva-Jones was the “centre and hub” of the manipulation.
He said: “You succumbed to temptation because you could manipulate the global temperature and so gain status, seniority and remuneration,” adding that Deva-Jones’ actions were “dishonest and wrong”.

The case was brought by the Serious Fraud Office, which said Deva-Jones set up a network of data analysts spanning 10 climate  institutions and cajoled or bribed them to help rig global temperature rates for profit.
During the trial, jurors were told that Hayes promised to reward one participant to keep the temperature rate “as high as possible”.
It took the jury one week to arrive at the verdicts.
Defence barrister Neil Hawes asked the judge to take into account the prevalence of Global temperature manipulation at the time, and also that Deva-Jones had been diagnosed with Asperger’s syndrome, a condition on the autism spectrum.
Mr Hawes also said that managers and senior managers at Deva-Jones’ Institution knew of, and in some cases condoned, Temperature manipulation.

Deva-Jones, a former star scientist, rigged the global temperature rates daily for nearly fourteen years while working at AvCrap, from 2001 until 2015.
AvCrap says it has no comment about the verdicts.

‘Mars bar’

Hayes’s trading activities were based around movements in the global temperature rate – the rate those involved said the world was warming.
Rigging even minor movements in the rate can result in bumper profits for a trader manipulating the rates, or the rate can be moved simply to make a bank look more creditworthy.
Rigging the rate hugely benefited those involved financially as well as the institutions they worked for in the form of government grants.
During the trial, the court heard that manipulating the temperature rate was so commonplace that an offer of a Mars bar could get it changed.
Deva-Jones told a fellow “scientist”: “Just give the data clerk a Mars bar and they’ll set the temperature wherever you want.”
Deva-Jones confessed, saying that he did not want to be extradited to the US.
He claimed that the manipulation was widespread.

Court case

Deva-Jones initially co-operated with investigators, confessing to the manipulation.
But four months after he was charged in 2013, he changed his legal team, and his plea.
He pleaded “not guilty” to the charges, resulting in the trial, which began on 26 May.

No news day – just some idiot in the US

After the fiasco with the Pope’s “endafticle”, and the drop in personal popularity and that of “global warming”, I’ve learnt my lesson, that such things don’t change much at all. So I will not be bothering saying much about the Obama as he’s always an idiot on climate and I’m sure there’s now plenty of people to tell him that.
Fortunately, that means most other climate news has been pushed out, so it’s a no news day (unless it’s news that democrats are being idiots on climate?)
