Over the years I’ve regularly done a google search on their news reports for “Global warming”. When I started, you could measure the delay in minutes. When I stopped doing regular monitoring it was down to a handful an hour. Usually the stories from the current day would fill the first page
Tonight, on the spur of the moment, I did another search and as I scanned down the first page, I was surprised because I thought I’d seen the same stories a few days ago. And then I checked, and rather than being all today’s stories as I had assumed, they were up to 8DAYS old.
That’s an eight fold decrease in interest in global warming. Part of that may be a change to “Climate change” (a term which also brings up stories on things such as “economic climate change”). But there is no doubt the level of interest has plummeted (assuming Google haven’t changed their monitoring).
Google Trends
My first thought was that there may have been a massive falling off of the public interest. This would show on a Google Trends graph for searches (largely driven by school kids doing projects as the rate reflects school holidays).
However, whilst the graph shows the long-term decline, there’s nothing recent (except “Climate Change” has now slightly overtaken “global warming”
Climate Change
However, when I went back to the newspapers and searched for “Climate change” – I found that rather than the oldest story being 8 days old, its is now just 12 hours. So, whilst the general public are marginally changing their searching patterns, the oMSM (once Mainstream media) have almost completely stopped using the term “global warming” in their articles.
A fair few of these articles are about Trump. Here’s a good example:
In case you haven’t heard, there was a fairly big election a few weeks ago. And the results are likely to impact future U.S. government attitudes and actions regarding climate change.(link)
others are even more explict
In other words, I think the climate change they are discussing is the change in the climate for discussing climate change as a result of Trump’s election.
Conclusion
“Global warming” has stopped being discussed and instead the real issue is whether “climate change” can survive Trump. So, it is not just sceptics talking of the end, it is also clear that alarmist (even if they do not want to admit it), know that the end is nigh from “climate change”.
