Irish Elections a Warning for Scottish Greens?

Thanks to Bishop Hill I learnt the supprising fate of the Irish Greens which seems to point the way things will go in the May Scottish elections. Funnily, enough I was just talking to my better half yesterday about the Greens last night when Patrick Harvie appeared (yet again) on the BBC.
The original Scottish Green MSP was Robin Harper elected in the first parliament in 1999. Robin is a nice enough person, a bit gullible on renewables and global warming, but to be honest he has his heart in the right place even if is head is in the clouds and at the time is was elected, we needed someone with a “conscience” because the other politicians so lacked any.
Then we had the “landslide” victory for the Greens in 2003 (must have been because I was a member), when a massive 6 greens were elected along with SSP and some independents. Strangely as soon as I left the Greens so did their support. Despite the huge publicity generating machine provided by 6 full time green activists, the party then slumped to a hugely demoralising 2 MSPs in 2007.
This left the original Green Edinburgh MSP: Robin Harper and the pink left winger Glaswegian: Patrick Harvie. Now Robin Harper has already said that “Before the last election I made up my mind that I did not wish to stand for a fourth term in the Scottish Parliament,” (source: Greenparty) which means he can’t be re-elected and so the Greens will be struggling as much as the support for Robin was personal support for him.
Which leaves Patrick Harvie as the sole remaining green with any public profile. So will he be re-elected?
Green issues haven’t exactly been top of the news in Scotland recently, so I wasn’t anticipating an enormous boost to their vote, but who knows? Then my wife (who usually doesn’t comments much on politics) said: “the Greens haven’t done anything in the last parliament”. That was a shock I thought I was the sceptic in the Household!
So, when I read in Bishop Hill of the results of the Irish election, if they are anything to go by, the result of the Scottish election seems pretty clear: If the Irish Greens lost all of its six seats, surely the Greens in Scotland are also heading for total annihilation!
