There was a post today of the USS Gerald R Ford limping home with “suffering from Fire Damage, Clogged Toilets, and Sinking Morale” and I realised that the sinking morale was a result of the extremely poorly planned and executed “war” on Iran.
The US had no idea what it was up against. Its weaponry was totally inadequate to fight against the Iranian defences and the result was a humiliating retreat.
Now, supposedly Trump is sending a couple of thousand ground troops to an island where it will be impossible to supply them without running the gauntlet of missiles and torpedoes and drones that will ensure numerous ships are similarly hit to those ships that have already been hit by “laundry fires”.
In those circumstances if I were Iranian I wouldn’t attack those on the island, but instead leave them there and draw out the conflict for months and years forcing the constant resupply of the island, because it is the supply line that is most vulnerable. Obviously I would take pot shots at the men stupid enough to get dumped on the island as well. That would make their life a misery, forcing ships or helicopters to make the perilous journey to pick up the wounded. Again those would be extremely vulnerable.
Of course, it could all be a decoy … the troops might land elsewhere or do something else like pretend to secure the Uranium … allowing Trump to claim “victory” and then leave the region burning and the global economy heading into deep recession. But Iran will have won, and the US knows it, even if the US try to pretend their “tactical withdrawal” isn’t a defeat.
Or Trump might be planning an all out invasion … with the US’ extremely limited capability. I can’t see any of it going well, because the Iranians will have planned for every scenario and Trump is not a planning, nor a strategist, nor even a logistician. In short: Trump doesn’t have a clue what he is doing, nor does the team around him. They are incompetent fools.
It’s not that the US could not have won against Iran … but they can not do it now, especially under this president and his current group of advisors. So, if I were a marine, I would be doing whatever it takes to ensure I do not get sent to this island by Trump … unless I had a death wish, and enjoyed living under constant bombardment with a lack of supplies and ammunition.
