The key to winning a war, especially against an opponent with apparently better capability, is to think beyond the strategy of your opponent. That is helped when you opponent is arrogant, conceited and immoral. Because such people cannot comprehend those with principles and morals. They think everyone can be bought, that everyone will act in their own selfish interest. They model the world using their own corrupt viewpoint where everyone is either a dumb animal easily manipulated to die for your profit, or they can be bought.
