VW owners: "Zu WILL make the fuel consumption, performance and engine life Vorse".

I was reading today that for the sake an emissions target that was so worthless that no one bothered to check it … VW owners are going to be asked to take their cars to some garage to have them change it so that it uses more fuel, it’s performance is worse, and likely the engine won’t last as long.
Only a complete moron would believe any owner would waste their time on such a pathetic and pointless exercise such for the sake of Eurocrasy.
So, why the billions lost on the VW share price when I can’t believe more than 0.1% (i.e. just complete eco-morons) would ever ask for the change. No! It seems to me, that the only way VW owners will make this change is if they are dragged kicking and screaming to it.
And what will the eco-fascist Eurocrasy do if they refuse? Jail them?
I can’t imagine a better way to show people the madness of eco-fascism.

I agree; I have a Skoda which might be affected so I do have a personal interest in this. I would resist any change being made. However once the car is subject to an MOT I would think that the change might have to be made as emissions are part of the test and at that point presumably having a cheat device fitted would be fraudulent.

Anyone spotted the BBC highlighting the climate change policy link. I have missed it if so.

This is gong to be an interesting test case for the greenspin. Because it’s no academic discussion – but a very stark choice.
Do they or do they not insist the cars “pass” some arbitrary test, costing billions …. and then be responsible themselves for increasing fuel consumption?

I haven’t got a VW but I have got a Volvo that might be affected. I’d resist getting it ‘fixed’ unless it was seriously going to affect the tax or something like that. I love the mileage it gets. The suggestion is that you’ll need to get it fixed to sell it but a) I don’t want to sell my car until it’s knackered any way. and b) I doubt people buying a second hand car give a stuff about NOx unless is costs more to tax it or enter cities.
The effect on the company is different. There may be a lot of anxious types who get the car done for fear of being arrested or because they don’t realise that it will affect the mileage. In theory VW will have to pay for every car to be fixed so they have to budget for it. There may be claims for compensation. There may be silly law suits from asthmatics. Governments may make getting your car mandatory. Lots of uncertainty and potential cost, which is all bad for share price.

    Not the emissions in question.

VW should not have rigged the tests. Simple as that.
At the same time, there is little if any media attention on the emissions limits the testing was supposed to control. It appears there is little to no science to support the controls–which then implies they are myths.
The biggest illness that is pointed at is asthma–but even the medical establishment, e.g. Centre for Disease Controlling the USA, says they do not know what causes asthma.
We are, though, killing ourselves, with unfounded controls.

  7. The companies aren’t interested in the environment – instead these “standards” are just a way to get one over the competition. So, when the EU introduces standards, you can bet the US and Chinese car makers aren’t told about them to the last minute whilst the (friendly) European ones have known for years.
… as such they might have well have a standard that engines should play “humpty dumpty” … because it’s just a way of getting a temporary competitive advantage – and so allowing European manufacturers to demand higher prices for absolutely no benefit to the consumer.

  8. I bought a Golf only because I thought they had sorted out the NOx and particulate emissions that had previously caused me to prefer petrol.
I want my money back so that I can go out and buy a petrol vehicle instead.

Our car is so old – I’ve no idea how it gets through the emissions tests.
