I’ve set up this poll to canvas opinion regarding a possible name. Obviously it’s not scientific, as I’m adding names as they are suggested, and to give a chance to express a view on later names I’ve enabled voting more than once … I’ll rerun the poll more scientifically when people have had a chance to add their suggestions.

Names removed due to lack of interest:
- Association of Scottish Sceptics of Exaggerated Claims of Manmade Global Warming
- Association of Scottish Sceptics of Exaggerated Claims of Anthropogenic Global Warming …

Although my ancestors are Scottish and there’s a crannog with my name on it I’m not eligible to vote since I’m a sasanach but I’m not sure you should choose an name that shortens to ASS.
How about Scottish Advocates for Sound Science SASS or Celtic Advocates for Sound Science CASS which could include the Welsh, the Irish and displaced Celts like me 😉
I loved Watt’s up with Scotland but I think Scottish Global Warming Sceptics (with a “c”) is to the point and makes a clear and unambiguous statement. Too short a term such as Scottish Sceptics sounds more like a philosophical movement – there is a long and honourable tradition of scepticism within Scottish philosophy; you don’t have to read David Hume to doubt the gross exaggerations of the warmists, although it might help.

I think you should leave “sceptic” out of the title, as it is seized on by many as being something bad. Sound science is what you are advocating.
I agree, but I’ve tried and tried to think of names that would work.
I did think of “climate science information repository” … but it sounds too passive … why would an MSP meet with a repository?
I suppose something like: Scottish Climate Science Association might work, except there wouldn’t be any of the gravy-boat climate “scientists” and it might put off people who are sceptical.
A lot of the sceptical organisations have names like: “the marshal institute” … I’m not aware of anyone major who did work on the climate who was a Scot.
Not sure if my “other” made it though the heather (above). I think you need to leave yourself some room to grow; politicians have cornered the market on stupidity and there will definitely be more issues besides the insanity of throwing the people’s hard earned tax money at AGW, windmills, and “Green” insanity cures for generations unborn based on psyentific children’s horror stories about gobblins and whatnots unseen, and unheard, and unsmelled, and untouched, and unimmagined, but just waiting to gobble us all and take us to hell and deny us the eternal reward…. you get the picture. I suggest, at this particular moment in time subject to change or redaction, “Scotch Bonnets”. The truth is so like a Scotch Bonnet, even the smallest taste will burn your mouth like the fire of hell itself.
Pascvaks,
I’ve added it thanks.
Obviously, if enough brave souls join the clans in revolt against fraud, waste, and abuse of the privilage of occassional stupidity by those elected to serve us all, it also serves as an ideal piece of “uniformity” to seperate the good from the bad. That is the Tam o’Shanter “Scotch Bonnet” does, not the pepper “Scotch Bonnet” of the same name referred to above. There be more to life than truth, but not much. Time to paint up lads, there be “killing and dying” aplenty to do, the English be inside the bloody walls, and the bonnie halls. 😉
Got to be something suitable in Burns
“O thou grim, mischief-making chiel,
That gars the notes o’ discord squeel,
Till daft mankind aft dance a reel
In GORE, a shoe-thick…..”
(Robbie Burns on Toothache – a similar irritation to AGW)
“Some rouse the patriot up to bare
Corruption’s heart:
Some teach the bard – a darling care –
The tuneful art,
“‘Mong swelling floods of reeking GORE,
They, ardent, kindling spirits pour….”
(Robbie Burns – The Vision”)
How about:- TRG – “The Reeking Gore”
@TinyC02
Yes ASS, does have a ring to it. But proclaiming loudly that one is an ASS man, may be misinterpreted. The local Minister could struggle with this for example, I don’t know.
It is a tricky one, As the main thrust is policy rather than science it might be better to have a name that reflects that. Concentrating on the policy – such as the ineffectiveness of wind power, or how climate policy increases fuel poverty – is the way to get listened to.
