For some 2000 years the Christian Church has been condemning the “pagans”, but now in the pope’s proclaimation he has embraced paganism and talks of “brother sun, sister moon, brother to the river and to mother Earth”. Has he joined the secret order of the golden sickle?

In the excitement over the Pope’s encyclical and the upcoming Paris conference, people are not talking about how CO2 mitigation efforts, if successful, would put civilization onto an unsustainable path.

I wanted to see whether this announcement had the potential to change views, but instead I’m rather surprised by the lack of serious news coverage. This has left me scratching my head trying to work out 1. whether anyone’s views have been changed and 2. why we aren’t so far getting much serious news coverage.
I’m beginning to think that this might be covered differently than other global warming news stories and if so, the result could be very interesting.
I think the coverage has hardened into pro- and anti- CO2 mitigation positions, and so a middle POV falls between the crack.
These folks are saying we can use fossil fuels in a way that benefits both humans and nature, and in fact, if we don’t do so, our civilization is not sustainable.
Strong stuff, but doesn’t fit in the usual boxes.
