With coffee in hand, I turn on the computer, read a couple of blogs and then noticed the trees blowing wildly outside … I wonder how many stories are on line linking this storm with Global warming.
None! (so far)
OK, I’ve not spotted any bins flying horizontally long the street dragging old ladies behind them as we usually get. But come on! A tree has blocked the A9! And even I could produce a news headline from that:
A 9 to global warming sceptics!
So, if anyone does spot the first cookoo report of GW, do write a post!
Addendum
I’ve done another search (7:52am on Tuesday) and so far the only article mentioning global warming and the storms found by google is ….. is ….. this one! Not a single news item, not a single blog. OK, it takes time for google to scan them and the number may rise in the next month. But compared to even a year ago this is like chalk and cheese. Add that the outbreak of real sensible reporting in the US on the tornadoes Media accurately reporting links between climate change and tornadoes and it really does look as if:
Global warming hysteria is dead in the Main stream media!
It was exceptionally windy today – I can vouch for that having driven back from Perth to Oban dodging trees all the way. It was weather though, not climate.
Going one way on the Embra bypass I tucked behind something larger to keep economical progress.
Going the other way I didn’t really need an engine 🙂
There’s two trees down at Lenzie station. One blocking the entrance from the “Posh” side.
Sounds like the thing that blasted trough La Grande, Oregon last weekend. trees, barns destroyed , lighting and thunder, hail. My brave Show bred English Springer, Rollie, hid under our bed.( If a person he’d be Bertie Wooster or John Cleese’s upper class twit..)
The press does like to associate some storms or extreme weather with global warming, but as you say, obviously not always.
If they consult a conventional expert, the standard litany is “It’s impossible to associate any given weather event with climate change; weather and climate are different; global warming predicts that extreme weather events will become statistically more common, but does not predict or explain individual events”.
Sometimes the news report that nuanced disclaimer.
Maybe, just maybe, the reporters have started actually reading it and will cease to try to tie individual events to climate change. That would be good.
