The other night I watched the film “anchorman” and whilst beforehand I thought it would be a very poor comedy, at times it looked more like a documentary of our media. It certainly highlighted the way that the media fake “news” to get ratings.
Climate porn as we all know, has been a ratings grabbing device for media and politicians for a while now. And like all click bait, most people have already realised it’s bullshit.
But, isn’t it interesting that the main groups pushing this climate porn: the politicians and media are not only the most disrespected groups in society, but are also appearing to be on the way out. In the UK, for example, the politicians who push the climate porn were all severely beaten by the TOTALLY NEW Brexit party. Likewise, in the US, the Democrats and Republicans were beaten by the TOTALLY NEW phenomenon of Trump. Politicians of the old parties now look like big fish floundering on the sand as the water level drops.
We also know that many papers are struggling to keep their financial heads above water. In particular the main climate porn pushers in the UK are all floundering: the Guardian, e.g. … one of the main pushers of climate porn only exists because of its massive nest egg from selling the fossil-fuel focussed magazine of Auto-trader. The Independent is now a glorified blog, and the BBC is haemorrhaging viewers at an unsustainable rate so that it cannot be long before privatisation is openly talked about by politicians.
Thus it seems to me, there is a direct correlation between those groups who used to be powerful and are now on the way out, and those pushing climate porn.
So, is climate porn, the thing that is killing them? Apparently they don’t think so as they desperately try to keep viewers by making the porn ever more bestial. Is it that they have a common cause … that the kind of people who became journalists to push their political views, are also the kind of nutters who believe their own climate porn?Maybe. However, it seems most likely that the extreme non-science we now see, is a last ditch attempt by a media and political parties to desperately try to stay “relevant” … and ironically because they are such morons on the science, in the most irrelevant way possible.
The root cause of the downfall of the press is easy to understand in retrospect: journalists are only interested in the subjects that journalists find interesting. And, that very often means the subjects that those who are not journalists don’t find interesting. So, almost every subject that is interesting to those outside journalism, is almost entirely ignored by journalists. In the old days, that didn’t affect journalists, because there was no real choice about where we got our entertainment so non-journalists had no choice but to read the journalists’ ghastly self-indulgences, we either became interested in what they were interested in, or if we didn’t like it … and wanted news, entertainment … we had to lump it.
But today, if you don’t want to read the latest moronic fad being talked about by press journalists – we can and do go on the internet to find someone who has something more interesting to say. Press journalists never did interest most of their readers … they just had a captivated audience. Now that audience is able to find an interest elsewhere … what else have the journalists got left but click bait climate porn?
Something similar is also true of political parties. In the past, there really was no choice except the main parties being pushed by the press, because it was impossible for any other party to get enough publicity to get enough votes to get elected. And without being elected there was no chance of getting publicity. And any party that had political views the press didn’t want to hear … was viciously attacked with every possible insult by the vile scum who are journalists … who ensured there was no real way to get the truth heard once the press had destroyed the character of those whose POLITICs they disliked.
So, we had no choice but to vote for a very small group of parties selected and moulded by journalists to fit the JOURNALISTs political views. The politicians were reliant on the press and the press is now pushing climate porn … so the old tired politicians who know no way of getting elected but rolling over to play the press tune … push the same climate porn.
Prediction
In 30 years, serious people will still be arguing about whether there’s been any significant change at all in the climate, but I don’t thing anyone will be arguing that politics and the press haven’t changed almost beyond recognition from what they are now.
