Below is a “personal” letter I received from Ezra Levant. What I find so interesting is:
- Globally the “public” media in Canada, UK and Australia all pretend to be “impartial” and no doubt like the BBC they have similar requirements to be impartial. But they are really no different from any other media – pushing their own agenda – except unlike any other media, the only people they have to keep on side are their paymasters in government.
- Because of new technology, the cost of media is now falling dramatically. Where once it was necessary to have massive broadcasters like the BBC, these days, it’s almost possible for a handful of people to set up start and operate a successful broadcaster. And like the proverbial shrew and the dinosaur – the dinosaurs are never able to contemplate that those shrews will ever drive them to extinction.
Dear Mike,
Have you been watching this federal election campaign? It’s a gong show.
I don’t mean the politicians. I mean the media. Their conduct is outrageous. They’re not even pretending to be neutral. They’ve got a full-blown case of Harper Derangement Syndrome.
I call them the “Media Party”, because they’re campaigning full-tilt. You just can’t trust them to give you the straight news.
Take the CBC. Thomas Mulcair has promised the CBC a $115 million bonus if he wins. Justin Trudeau has outbid him. He says he’ll pay the CBC $150 million if he wins. So CBC journalists are campaigning against Harper like their own jobs depend on it.
CTV and Global TV aren’t much better. And with the Sun News Network off the air, who’s left to provide balance?
Well, that would be us – TheRebel.media. We only started seven months ago, but we’re already getting more than one million visits a month to our website. We’ve produced more than 1,500 videos, some of which have been viewed hundreds of thousands of times. Canadians are hungry for the other side of the story that they can’t get in the mainstream media.
But it’s still not enough. If we’re ever going to make a real difference in Canada, we need to do more than just quick, five-minute videos. We need to broadcast real TV shows, from a real studio. Like the big boys do.
But how? A studio can cost a million dollars. Just staffing a TV studio requires a half dozen employees.
Well, we’ve been working on it, and I think we have a high-tech answer.
If we build a small, sound-proof studio, we can put what’s called a “green screen” in it, and tape the show in front of it. A computer automatically projects a “virtual” background on the green screen – making it look like we’re in a gorgeous TV studio that would cost a million dollars in real life.
Even better, we’ve found a green screen system that only needs a single person to operate it.
We’ve been working on this for months. But watching this outrageously-biased election campaign was enough to make me say, “start building!”
So we’ve started. We’re going to build a real studio, and start producing real, hour-long TV shows in addition to the short clips we’ve been producing so far.
In fact, construction is underway, and we expect to have the studio operational on October 19th, for a live election night special!
The CBC builds their studios with the $1 billion a year they wring out of taxpayers. The Sun News Network spent $20 million a year.
We can build our studio for $85,000. Would you please help us?
We’ve set up a crowdfunding page here. We list many of the tools we need — from the green screen to the computer that runs it to the sound-proof walls. Would you consider helping us out? It’s like a wedding gift registry, really. But instead of giving a gift to a young couple starting out in life, it’s a gift to a group of rebels taking on the world!
I know it’s unusual to ask for help to build a studio. But it’s reality. We’re not a massive media company like CTV or Global. We’re as grassroots as it gets.
And I’d rather build our network from the ground up, with your help, than ask for a dime of money from Canadian taxpayers, like the CBC does.
So please check out our crowdfunding page. If you believe Canada needs a counterweight to the Media Party, we need your help. By building this studio, we can start producing real, hour-long TV shows every day, and we can grow it into a real alternative news network.
Can you kick-start our TV studio, and change Canadian media forever? I hope you will.
Yours gratefully,
Ezra Levant
Rebel Commander
P.S. Our crowdfunding website will be active for two weeks. If you contribute $42.50 or more, we’ll put your name on a symbolic brick on the outside wall of our studio! We also have a very limited number of cornerstones on the studio too, for people who want to be cornerstones of our project by contributing $1,500. Please visit the website today and help however you can.
P.P.S. If you know someone else who might like TheRebel.media and want to help us, please forward this e-mail to them, too, or share our website, www.BuildTheDream.ca on Facebook!
