Met Office: nothing short of criminal investigations will satisfy me

Back in 2008 when I wrote the following post, the BBC might have got away with what Andrew Montford on Bishop Hill describes as:

For such a trifling programme, Quentin Letts’ What’s the Point of the Met Office is really making waves. Booker reviews it over at the Mail and there’s some interesting coverage by Damian Thompson at the Spectator.

So, let’s just see what was already apparent some 8 years ago:

Global Temperatures & CO2 The Failure of the Theory of Manmade Global Warming

Global Temperatures & CO2
The Failure of the Theory of Manmade Global Warming

February’s Update news: According to revised official Met office1 figures, January 2008 was still the coldest month globally in 14 years2. At only 0.056°C higher than the nominal reference3 We must look back to February 1994 to find a colder month. Global temperatures peaked in February 1998 at 0.75°C and with February coming in at 0.194°C there is a definite and accelerating cooling trend of -0.1°C/decade.
By the Met Office’s own statistic’s it is highly unlikely that the forecasts could be consistently too high by chance and therefore this is clear proof of a consistent error in the forecasting model. That is to say, the cooling temperature clearly contradicts the theory of manmade global warming, because although CO2 levels continue to rise, global temperatures have cooled.

Even as far back as 2007 (I wrote an article the year before the above), it was obvious there was something seriously wrong with the Met Office and their predictions regarding global warming. They were consistently getting each and every year too high. Back then, one could argue it was a legitimate mistake and that they had been genuinely mistaken about their own abilities. Back then they could have got away with some red faces and an apology.
And following my articles – the Met Office did stop making these yearly forecasts (at least they stopped publishing them)  – at the time I reasonably thought that meant “all they need is a bit of encouragement and they will come clean”. And I’ve been encouraging them for what is fast approaching a decade now, and even after all this time they still have not come clean.
So, now their repeated claims to be able to predict the climate cannot in any way be described as genuine mistake, but instead must be a cold calculated lie. It was obvious almost a decade ago that their models were wrong – but they have never admitted it.
And despite this massive public scandal, the BBC haven’t done anything for a good eight except mount a series of vitriolic attack on sceptics. And now, when almost all the rest of the world is waking up to the fact it is a scandal, the BBC hide this “trifling programme” away in the schedules. This is precisely the same attitude as the Saville affair. The BBC knowingly have hidden facts from the public and it is only when they cannot escape the truth because their noses are being rubbed in the dog shit, that they finally and very grudgingly broadcast a “trifling programme”.
There is no doubt, the BBC is broken as an organisation. It cannot be trusted either to regulate its own internal affairs in issues as important as child protection as Saville shows, nor to broadcast impartially on what was once called “the world’s greatest problem”.

It’s time to scrap the BBC as I really believe it does more harm than good for Britain.

As for the Met Office
after over 8 years of knowingly hiding the truth about their forecasts,
repeatedly and falsely making claims such as repeatedly attacking others who correctly said the 20th century warming was not “statistically significant”
and generally
misleading the public politicians and media about the climate
whilst having their snouts in the trough of public money (100s of millions on computers staff bonuses for their “correct” forecasts NOT ON CLIMATE),
they are a national disgrace and

Well said. They are a bunch of crooks and charlatans. Just like banks.

Met Office Blown Out by BBC !
After decades of increasingly bad forecasts,
often bettered by a DIY “weather station” from
*Maplin Electronics, finally the Met Office have been
finally given the order of the Bum’s Rush, by “Auntie”.
The RAF did so years ago, and what is it now for we ask ?
Ninety odd millions for a new “Cray”, and what on Earth will
it be used for. Computing in “The Cloud” is now hundreds
of times more powerful than these old dinosaur cash guzzlers.
Get entirely rid of the so called Met Office, and sell off its assets
to the highest bidder, with all proceeds going back to The Treasury.
The entire edifice is an anachronism, harking back to the days when
only Governments could afford powerful computers. Now even I can
do a better job of forecasting the weather in my own home, than the
Met-O can do with hundreds of staff and hundreds of millions of the
Hard Earned Taxpayers Cash EVERY Year.
Good Riddance ! – It can’t come soon enough for me.

Every Official Body and Council &etc, just buy one of these
and get some junior clerk to operate it, for one to two hours
per day, to type in the forecast to e-mail list, and council website.
    Job Done !
