I’m really getting sick to death of the immoral climate extremists. This time its the “Yale Climate connections” who are using sufferers of Asthma to push their nasty politics whereby the poor pay to make the rich like Al Gore even richer.
Almost invariably this is achieved by cherry picking something that has increased (Ragweed), and falsely asserting this is causing a widespread problem (without actually giving any figures). And as usual they ignore the context for climate health issues whereby 20x as many people die from cold than heat and that cold, mould and damp are far more of a problem for those with breathing problems. That is one main reason why 1million extra people have died in the UK alone since this climate scam started. (37,000 a year in the UK alone)
Now every death is a tragedy whatever the cause. But if global warming had caused massive numbers of deaths from Ragweed, then surely we would be told? So, I checked online and found a site that is likely to embellish the death rate said that:
“There are more than 5,300 deaths from asthma annually. United States.” https://www.allergystore.com/index.php/news/ragweed-allergic-rhinitis-and-asthma.html
So even if we count all the allergies (which will include the really nasty one like peanut allergy where people can show extreme intolerance and there a numerous hospitalisations), in a country 5x the size of the UK, the total problem is 14% of the size of the UK death rate from winter deaths.
I wouldn’t myself wish asthma on anyone, but clearly these climate exremists are clutching at straws using this illness to keep this scam going. And that to my mind is totally despicable.
In contrast, cold is something that we can really do something about. And I will probably not get much support from some when I suggest that public money is needed to improve insulation, but in addition damp really thrives unless we also have good ventilation and its about time we in the colder wetter areas took action. Because in many older houses because of the climate extremists desire to force up fuel prices, it is really a choice between heating the home or ventilation – and either way mould and mould spores will proliferate in older housing.
And in many cases particularly for the elderly who already suffer from heart or lung conditions, people literally can’t afford the cost of living because of these evil increases in fuel prices caused by climate extremists.
I think this kind of over persuasion is detrimental to their cause.
Most asthmatics know which season they suffer most. Personally I’d love to only suffer for two months of the year but I’ve got 365 days of the year allergies. The allergies are controllable but respiratory infections are the real problems. Heating doesn’t seem to make that much difference but a mild winter is wonderful.
Sorry to hear that.
Grin. My parents suffered from different types of allergies, long before it became fasionable, and their doctor said ‘you’re not giving you’re kids much of a chance’. On the plus side, we’ve got generations worth of experience dealing with it. The key is to react fast, even to mild afflictions as they are cumulative when ignored. It’s possible that those who only suffer for a few months a year don’t do much about it and an extra week or two sees them deteriorate to potentially dangerous levels. The answer is to prepare for the season however long, not try to change the climate.
Allergies are caused I believe, by an over active immune response. A suggestion to reduce the response is to give the immune system something to do, and so it has been suggested to introduce parasites into the gut to keep the immune system busy so it doesn’t response to something irrelevant
… and
There is a similar response in society, whereby we are emotionally atuned to expect danger, and if we don’t have any danger in our lives, then some people’s “auto-danger” response increases so it is hyper sensitive and responds to things that are no danger at all … live CO2!
So, just to use a bizarre example … if we were to introduce a lottery where the “prize” was death …. and very public and gory one. Then I would predict that the scare about CO2 would quickly disappear. 🙂
It’s possible but I tend to favour the idea that people like me just didn’t live very long and so allergies were the least of our problems. It’s one of the reasons I’m extremely greatful for fossil fuels and everything they’ve done for us. It’s not PC to think of people with ‘conditions’ as inferior so it’s not an avenue that researchers would pursue. But as such a person I’m not squeamish about my flaws. There were few treatments when I was a child and I nearly died several times. Curiously it was never even suggested that if I had a severe attack I should go to A&E for oxygen. It wasn’t that long ago. I wonder if they just expected me to bow out gracefully. Had I caught something like TB or pneumonia, especially if they were untreated I would probably have expired.
However since there are now very good treatments, so long as I manage the problem, I’m fine. I think few doctors understand allergies and even my Mum’s specialist said that he despaired at how poor the support for asthma was. His patients tended to be more clued up than his non specialist colleagues.
An overactive immune system is not exclusive to allergy sufferers. During the 1918 influenza pandemic, young healthy adults were amongst the worst hit. They suffered what’s called a cytokine storm where the white blood cells start attacking even healthy cells. It destroyed the lungs of the victims and they drowned in their own fluids.
Sometimes a dose of a disease protects you against the next version but sometimes the body over reacts and does more harm than good. I don’t think doctors know what triggers the over reaction.
Having a highly sensitive immune system could actually have been a great advantage to your ancestors allowing the immune system to build up anti-bodies much quicker than other people. The downside, is that it could be “trigger happy” – but when half the population never made it out of childhood, it was probably far better to be quick off the draw.
I was trying to remember what changed my mood recently to push me over the edge into thinking this scam was tumbling and I’ve just realised what it is. I used to have one cast iron way to shut up annoying alarmists and it was to go on about the lack of predicted warming. Then suddenly we had the Nobel Prize Winning physicist, and now I’ve got the lecherous Pachauri and EPA and also the fact that climate extremists are admitting the Dead Parrot talks are already a failure.
With the “one club”, I used to have to keep badgering away at climate extremists for literally days on end, now it’s like I’ve got an exercet missile and an just blast the really irritating ones right off the forums.
